چکیده
UNLABELLED Research considers high frequency tonal audiometry as a tool for the early diagnosis of auditory alterations derived from etiological agents. AIM to investigate possible differences in high frequency audiometry of individuals with normal hearing, based on the person who places the earphone. PATIENTS AND METHOD clinical and experimental study with 55 undergraduate students from a country side branch of the São Paulo State University, with normal hearing, underwent two tests each; for the first, the evaluator positioned the earphone on the participant; for the second one, the participant did it by him/herself. An AC40 audiometer calibrated to emit pure tone was used in the frequencies of 10, 12.5, and 16 kHz. RESULTS The kappa(k) coefficient statistical analysis was used to verify the agreement between the two ways of earphone positioning of earphone, bearing a [FORMULA: SEE TEXT]0.70 kappa value as a criterion. Results attained for both ears were below this criterion, with k average of 0.50. DISCUSSION results indicate a risk of compromising the exam reliability when the patient him/herself adjusts phone to his/her own ear. CONCLUSION when performing audiometric assessment, this variable must be considered in order to attain reliable results.

Influence of Socioeconomic Characteristics on Purposes for which Mobile Phone was used by Small Scale Farmers in the Gezira State, Sudan
The objective of this study was to assess the influence of some socioeconomic characteristics on purposes for which mobile phone was used by small scale farmers in the Gezira State, Sudan. The total number of small- scale farmers in the State for 2013-2014 growing season was estimated to be 5000. Ten percent of the population was used using the simple random sampling technique. The collected da...
متن کاملThe Relevance of the High Frequency Audiometry in Tinnitus Patients with Normal Hearing in Conventional Pure-Tone Audiometry
OBJECTIVE The majority of tinnitus patients suffer from hearing loss. But a subgroup of tinnitus patients show normal hearing thresholds in the conventional pure-tone audiometry (125 Hz-8 kHz). Here we explored whether the results of the high frequency audiometry (>8 kHz) provide relevant additional information in tinnitus patients with normal conventional audiometry by comparing those with nor...
متن کاملAn iOS-based speech audiometry for self-assessment of hearing status
Speech audiometry is one of the methods for evaluating hearing status, and recently it’s tended to be implemented on mobile phones with the development of internet and smart devices. Although several applications include the function of speech audiometry, the effectiveness of this function was rarely reported. In this work, we developed an Apple iOS-based application (Hearing Assistant) with fu...
متن کاملConventional Audiometry, Extended High-Frequency Audiometry, and DPOAE for Early Diagnosis of NIHL
BACKGROUND Noise most frequently affects hearing system, as it may typically cause a bilateral, progressive sensorineural hearing loss at high frequencies. OBJECTIVES This study was designed to compare three different methods to evaluate noise-induced hearing loss (conventional audiometry, high-frequency audiometry, and distortion product otoacoustic emission). MATERIAL AND METHODS This was...
